About the School - The British School of Barcelona (Castelldefels)

The British School of Barcelona (BSB) is a great school in a wonderful location. We are an HMC school and were judged by a recent BSO (British Schools Overseas) inspection to be outstanding in every area, including quality of education, safeguarding, pupil welfare and academic outcomes.

BSB is a large, very popular school for children aged 3 to 18. Our curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum, and we offer a wide range of GCSEs, A levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma, all alongside a significant enrichment programme.

Over 2000 pupils from more than 74 nationalities attend the school and over 315 staff work at BSB. We are based in three locations, two just outside the city of Barcelona – in Castelldefels, where we have a Primary, Secondary and Pre-University campus, and in the cosmopolitan town of Sitges, where we have another Primary campus. BSB City is in the heart of the city of Barcelona itself with a Foundation campus (built September 2021), and a brand-new main campus which opened in September 2023.

The growth of the school has been accompanied by significant investment over recent years, including the building of a state-of–the art Pre-University Centre (Nexus), a full-sized 4G rugby and football pitch, dedicated STEM facilities and the new BSB City campuses.

About the role

We are looking for a full-time, permanent German teacher to start in September 2025 in our Castelldefels campus. We are looking for someone with a track record of A level and/or IBDP German exam success. The ability to teach Key Stage 3 Spanish or French would be an advantage.

1. As a teacher:

• Teach German up to A level and/or IBDP Higher Level.
• Deliver outstanding lessons in an innovative and inspirational way.
• Have high expectations of all students and track progress based on relevant data, observations and a wide range of assessments.
• Maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures and encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour and standards of work.
• Assess students’ work in line with school policies and procedures, referring to student performance targets.

2. Wider departmental contribution

• Support the delivery of the vision for your department and BSB more widely.
• Support the collaborative planning within your department, developing an exciting and engaging curriculum.
• Support robust and formative assessment systems within your department and the programme for intervention.
• Contribute towards professional development conversations of others within your team and actively seek opportunities for your own personal development.

3. Other responsibilities

• Continue your personal development and participate in the school’s staff development and performance management programme.
• Attend staff meetings, open evenings, and parents’ evenings.
• Attend assemblies and staff morning briefing.
• As a tutor, support the pastoral care for your form group.
• Contribute to the extracurricular programme of the school.
• Do anything reasonable required by the Headteacher and Principal.

Who we are looking for:

• Qualification: Batchelors Degree with QTS or International equivalent essential.
• Knowledge/experience: Teaching experience in Secondary School at all three key stages desirable. Knowledge of both IB and A Level desirable. Some vacancies are also suitable for someone recently qualified.
• Competences: Self-awareness and reflection, Learning Focus, Personal Drive, Integrity, Resilience, Partnership/Team working
• Languages: English essential and Spanish desirable.

BSB City is our newest British international campus for children aged 3-18, located in the heart of Barcelona. It brings our international, future-focused BSB education to students from Early Years to Pre-University.

BSB City comprises two buildings that together cover all educational stages: the Foundation Campus and the Luca Campus.

The Foundation Campus, an inspirational school located in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, is now open for our youngest students. The spectacular BSB City Luca Campus opened in September 2023, extending our provision in Barcelona for students up to Pre-University.
