At TomTom, we are building the best maps for the whole world, using a large variety of sources and applying state-of-the-art AI techniques for automated data processing at scale.
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer to join our Maps Quality and Insights team in Madrid, Spain. As part of the team, you will design and build data & analytics solutions assess map quality at scale and enable fast and cost-effective strategic decision making.
What you'll do
- Collaborate: Work in a cross-functional team of data engineers and data scientists, influencing and acting as a role model for junior team members and helping them to grow.
- Lead: Design, implement, and optimize complex systems and data processing pipelines deployed in a cloud environment. Utilize and combine various data sources to predict the quality of map features and functionalities using statistical models, ML, and AI.
- Drive: Make technical and design decisions, contribute to architectural discussions, and integrate with existing systems to improve engineering, testing, and operational best practices.
- Own: Take ownership of the full lifecycle of major projects or project steps: requirement gathering, feasibility analysis and design, transitions from research to production-level implementation and deliver solutions with high quality, performance, and scalability.
- Innovate: Lead changes and initiatives within your team and across other teams.
What you'll need
- A Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 7-8+ years of relevant industry experience, including developing production-grade code and end-to-end data analytics projects.
- Proficiency in Python and Spark; experience with Java or Scala is a plus.
- Expertise in simplifying complex data structures, algorithms, and problem-solving.
- Strong skills in software engineering for both greenfield projects and optimizing existing systems.
- Experience in building effective software architectures is key.
- Application of professional software engineering best practices—code reviews, source control, testing, and deployment processes.
- Application of DevOps practices principles and tools, including CI/CD pipelines, observability, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Proven experience in working with cloud technologies like Azure (or AWS, GCP), including architecting and maintaining data processing systems
- Ability to work independently, taking ownership of projects and delivering high-quality, maintainable solutions.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively in an international environment and with different stakeholders (software engs., product managers, data scientists, map experts and operations).
Nice to have
- Understanding of machine learning and AI fundamentals and best practices, to ensure smooth collaboration with data scientists in the team
- Experience with data & analytics projects involving Machine Learning, algorithms, and Computer Vision technologies and with MLOps principles and tools.
